The Devonport Animal Care Centre

RSPCA Tasmania has a dedicated Animal Care Centre, in Devonport, providing care and assistance to surrendered, neglected, sick or injured animals.

Coming to a shelter can be a very stressful and frightening experience for most animals and our staff do everything they can to make the animals that come to us as comfortable and relaxed as possible while we find them a suitable, loving forever home.

All our animals receive exercise and behavioural enrichment and are matched with other animals if possible, for company and/or playtime.

Our behavioural assessors are experienced and ensure that each animal is assessed for their individual temperament and requirements, both while in our care and to ensure we match them with the best possible new homes.

RSPCA Adoption & Retail Centres

The RSPCA has had many facelifts over the 140 years our organisation has been in existence.

Opening Adoption and Retail Centres (ARCs) is the next step in facilities upgrades and to introduce the community to our hub and spoke model.

We are looking for the perfect site for a central animal care centre, (to replace the ageing Devonport Animal Care Centre, which becomes the hub and to continue to develop ARCs as a touch point for our community, as the spokes.

The Latrobe ARC will be the third, after Launceston and Hobart. RSPCA ARCs offer adoptions of cats and pocket pets, as well as general advice on our current community support programs, like low cost desexing schemes and our AWARE program. ARCs stock retail items; food, enrichment and litter systems and any other necessities for taking an animal home.

7HO FM Salamanca Puppy Parking

(in conjunction with 7HO FM and City of Hobart)

We offer a doggy day care service at Hobart’s famous Salamanca Market.

RSPCA Tasmania “doggy-sits” any dogs that are walked to Salamanca Market on Saturday mornings by marketgoers.

Since January 2018 RSPCA staff have set up a Puppy Parking facility every Saturday to look after these dogs as their owners peruse the Salamanca wares. Not only is this service of great comfort to dog owning market goers, but it maintains a great relationship for the RSPCA in the south of the Tasmania.
