It’s long been known that dogs are man’s best friend, so it will come as no surprise that there is an entire day dedicated to our canine companions.

Now in its 15th year, National Dog Day is celebrated annually on August 26th to recognise the love dogs bring into people’s lives.

Life in lockdown has not only allowed us to spend more quality time at home with our families (of the human kind), but also with our pets too! Whether your dog has become your new working from home buddy, or they’ve just been there keeping your spirits up… this precious time has given us the opportunity to witness all their cute quirks and funny personalities more than ever.

So, on this special day, we’re asking you to paws (sorry, we couldn’t resist) for thought.

There are many ways to show your pup you love them. Extra big cuddles and some bonus treats. Take your furry friend out for an extra long walk or a run at the beach. Your dog will love yappy hour at the local dog park. Use #NationalDogDay and post photos of your best friend on social media.

But you don’t need to be a dog owner to celebrate this national day or enjoy all the benefits of a four-legged friend. If you don’t have a dog, ask to take your neighbour’s dog for a walk. Make a donation to a dogs’ home and help a dog find its new forever home.

Of course, if you don’t have a dog, check out our Adopt-a-Pet website or other rescue websites – and this might be the day you find your new best friend!

Whatever you choose to do on National Dog Day, make sure you celebrate all the good bois in the world.
