Kitty’s story: from pain to healing and a wonderful second chance because compassion changes lives

A Life Transformed

Kitty’s story began in distress and pain.

When she came into the care of our Inspectorate team, she was underweight and suffering from severe injuries consistent with chemical burns.

She was found confined in an outdoor enclosure in poor conditions, with significant contamination and no protection from the elements.

Her injuries were extensive and required immediate veterinary treatment and ongoing specialist care.

Care And Recovery

Veterinary teams worked quickly to stabilise Kitty and begin her recovery. Her treatment included careful wound management, pain relief, regular cleaning, and ongoing monitoring to prevent infection and support healing.

Over time, healthy tissue began to regenerate. With consistent care, comfort, and safety, Kitty slowly began to recover — not just physically, but in spirit as well.

What once was a story of suffering became one of resilience, recovery, and hope.

A Second Chance

Today, Kitty’s life looks very different.

In addition to her other medical treatment, she was desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, and provided with ongoing parasite treatment — and she has now been adopted into a safe and loving home where she can continue her life free from harm.

Her journey is a reminder that recovery is possible when animals receive timely rescue, expert veterinary care, and the chance to heal.

The Work Behind Every Rescue

Every day across Tasmania, our inspectors, shelter teams, transport staff, foster carers, and community outreach teams meet animals and people facing difficult circumstances. This can include financial hardship, illness, isolation, or family violence. In helping animals, we are often also supporting vulnerable people to reconnect with safety, stability, and hope.

From emergency rescues and long-distance transport to specialist treatment and round-the-clock care, much of this work happens quietly behind the scenes — but none of it would be possible without supporters like you.
