Launceston Shelter
The Launceston Branch and Animal Welfare Shelter has been operating from its current site at Remount Road, Mowbray for around 15 years.
The site also includes the Launceston City Dogs´ Home (Pound), which the RSPCA operates on behalf of the City Council.
If you lose your dog in the Launceston area, your first call should be to the RSPCA on 6326 6333.
The Shelter has accommodation for around 60 to 70 dogs and a similar number of cats. In addition we operate our own commercial dog and cat boarding business which contributes approximately one-third of the total running costs of the branch.
The Shelter operations are coordinated by the Shelter Manager with the assistance of 10 RSPCA staff and 30 loyal and hard-working volunteers.
Each day the Shelter needs five RSPCA staff and five volunteers to run efficiently and provide the high level of care of which we are so proud.
The Regional Branch Committee meets once a month and is comprised of RSPCA members. The committee discusses and develops fundraising activities and shelter projects, and is particularly active in improving the welfare of animals within the shelter through various working groups such as the Animal Enrichment Group.
