Background of RSPCA Tasmania
The Tasmanian Society was created in 1872 and, in 1956, Australian Societies were given the Royal Warrant, becoming known as the Royal Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
RSPCA Tasmania has four Shelters with the core of administration, ´hands-on´ animal welfare, animal care and inspectorial work carried out by paid staff.
Volunteers work in all areas of RSPCA Branches and are instrumental to their survival.
The State Council, consists of up to 13 volunteer members, 6 of whom are elected by the membership, with four being Regional representatives appointed by the State Council, which manages and controls the affairs of the Society as defined by the Constitution. The State Council oversees the management committees of all four branches, which in turn supervise individual Branch operations and fund raising activities.
