Volunteer Animal Care Attendant
This rewarding volunteer role would suit applicants that love animals, dogs or cats and are committed to improving their welfare.
The position involves the daily cleaning of the animals' pens such as hosing, feeding, bathing and scooping up of poop! Providing the animals with food, water, bedding and toys is a big part of daily shelter activities. Once the hard work is done, you can spend time with the animals giving them enrichment, taking the dogs for walks, maybe doing some training with the dogs to assist them in finding their forever home.
People applying for this position can choose to work with cats or dogs, or both. You need to be happy to work hard, be physically fit, and be willing to get your hands dirty for a good cause!
The position is available
- Monday - Friday 8.30am-12.30pm or 12pm-4pm.
- Saturday - Sunday 10am-2pm
We request a minimum commitment of 1 shift per week. Full orientation and training will be provided.
Volunteers must be 18 years of age or over to apply.
Skills required – Confidence with animals, the ability to work independently, the ability to stand for long periods, be physically fit, ability to cope with increased noise levels, attention to detail, ability to follow instructions.
Skills to be gained – Animal husbandry, animal handling and training techniques, animal disease control, animal shelter experience, basic animal behaviour knowledge.
