Pets Aren’t Toys

As Christmas approaches, the RSPCA is reminding people that Pets Aren’t Toys and any decision about introducing a new furry member of the family should be a collective choice and involve everyone in the household.

There should never be a pet under the Christmas tree, and it should never, ever be purchased as a surprise.

Pets are a lifetime responsibility and before choosing a pet, families should consider the variety of aspects that come with pet ownership.

Firstly there is of course the cost. Aside from the initial expenses involved with desexing, microchipping and vaccinating, there are the ongoing costs of food, training, vet treatment, yearly vaccinations, pet insurance, emergency health care and more.

Then there are the less tangible requirements such as love and enrichment. All animals require these and the pet you choose much suit your lifestyle.

So when it comes to choosing your next pet make sure you do your homework and you’ll find the perfect match for you, your family and your new friend.
