Foster Care Program
The RSPCA believes that every treatable animal has its own intrinsic value, and that euthanasing these animals is not an option. We nearly always need short and longer term term foster carers to provide a loving home environment for animals recovering from an illness or injury and, in many cases, animals that are pregnant or feeding their young. When the animal is fit, healthy and/or independent of its mother, it can return to the RSPCA Care Centre for rehoming. All resources required for successful rehabilitation are provided by the RSPCA. Short-term housing is particularly important during times when an Animal Care Centre is already full, usually during kitten season! Download a PDF of our Volunteer Foster Care brochure. Foster carers are also required in cases where a pet's loving owner may have passed away or had to enter a nursing home. This Program allows people to make provision for the care of pets after the death of their owners. We screen and inspect the Foster Home regularly to ensure the previous levels of care and attention are maintained. The much-loved pet always remains the responsibility of the RSPCA, with the costs associated with the care of the pet being met by us.
