Bequests

Making a bequest, or leaving a memorial donation,
will help RSPCA TAS provide care for thousands of animals annually.

MAKE A BEQUEST

A bequest is a property or a sum of money committed to an organisation and donated upon the donor's death. A bequest can take a variety of forms. Deciding which way you feel is the fairest method of dividing your estate and will determine its format. Some options include:

A percentage bequest - (e.g. I bequeath 20% of my estate to RSPCA TAS ... ) This will reflect any change in value through inflation or interest as the years progress but does not affect the priority or importance of your bequest.

A residual bequest - (e.g. I leave the residue of my estate to RSPCA Tasmania. This involves leaving the remainder of an estate after friends and family have been provided for through specific gifts.

A residual bequest - (e.g. I bequeath 20% of my estate to RSPCA Tasmania ... ) This will reflect any change in value through inflation or interest as the years progress but does not affect the priority or importance of your bequest.

A specific bequest - (e.g, I bequeath my ... to RSPCA Tasmania ... ) and could include a stated dollar amount, real estate, shares, proceeds of life insurance policies, annuity or pension, or physical assets: jewellery, artwork, vehicle, furniture...etc.

An alternative bequest - This allows a person or organisation to be nominated as an alternative beneficiary if another named recipient is unable to accept a bequest. This might be particularly relevant if you have not updated your Will for some time and if one of the named beneficiaries has passed away.

If you’d like further information on leaving a gift in your will to help the RSPCA with our fight to prevent animal cruelty, please contact us on 03 6244 3033.

MAKE A MEMORIAL DONATION

A memoriam donation is a legitimate form of giving and a beautiful way to acknowledge the passing of a family member, colleague, friend or pet. Many people, for example, arrange a memoriam donation in lieu of giving flowers.

Donations received in memoriam by RSPCA Tasmania are receipted and amounts $2 and over are tax deductable. The donor is sent a thank you card and the family of the deceased are also sent a card to acknowledge that a monetary gift has been given in memory of their loved one.

Funeral homes that would like to hold our In Memoriam Giving Envelopes or would like more information, please contact us.

LEGACY PETS

The RSPCA TAS provides a Pet Legacy program for Testators wishing to provide for their beloved companions should they predecease them.

Before engaging a solicitor to draw up a Will, please contact the Bequest Department and speak to a Legacy Officer for a full disclosure of costs and conditions. To ensure your pet(s) receive the best care possible, the Bequests Department needs to have their details before coming into the Legacy facility. A condition of the Legacy program is pet pre-registration.

Please contact us for appropriate forms and further information.

INCLUDE A CHARITY

The RSPCA is NOT an agency of the Australian Government and therefore relies on the generosity of the community to continue its vital daily work.

Along with our shelters, volunteer branches and Inspectorate, we also fund an Education team that visits schools, universities and community groups to educate the importance of treating all living things with kindness. Other programs we fund include offering a safe bed to pets of domestic violence victims, a support program for pets of elderly people and de-sexing programs in rural and indigenous areas.
